In these playful, music-filled classes, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers explore rhythm, melody, and movement alongside their caregivers. Through laughter, play, and hands-on activities, children build the foundational skills for musical and dramatic expression while enjoying meaningful bonding time. Classes combine age-appropriate songs, rhythm exercises, and imaginative play to develop musicality, self-expression, and stage confidence, all while keeping the experience playful and fun. |
At the Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland, we believe theatre starts at the very beginning. The earliest years are a critical developmental stage when a child’s musical potential is especially open to influence. All classes serve as developmentally appropriate introductions to musical theatre. Each class emphasizes music, rhythm, storytelling, and movement, but activities are carefully tailored to the child’s developmental stage. This ensures children are always learning in ways that are fun, accessible, and supportive of their growth.
*How will this program benefit the littles and their families?*
• Developmentally tailored growth – each stage meets children where they are and prepares them for the next.
• Confidence and creativity – kids develop self-expression, imagination, and comfort performing in front of others.
• Musical foundation – early exposure to rhythm, melody, and ensemble singing.
• Community and family engagement – especially in Twinkle Tots, parents are part of the experience, helping build lasting connections with the theatre.
• Clear program pathway – families can see their child’s growth from babyhood through early performance, encouraging long-term participation in our theatre community.
