CTSMD Testimonials

The Children's Theatre of Southern Maryland is very grateful for the kind words we have received from students, parents, and audience members about our program.  If you'd like to add your own words to our wall of testimonials, send an email to [email protected].

If you're new to us, see what some of our friends have to say about their involvement with CTSMD:

The family culture developed in this group is powerful, safe, and more than I could have ever anticipated in its ability to bring adolescent peers together in a mutually uplifting, nonjudgmental space. It truly has no equal and I am indebted to CTSMD for this profound, genuine socialization my homeschooled children and I have long searched for. Here you will find peer socialization as it truly should be.
I found a forever place I could call a home, a safe space and somewhere that I'm always happy. The teaching artists, directors, producers, kids, and many more take passion and pride in what they are doing. Everyone opened me with welcome arms and were there with me through the ups and downs. Once I joined CTSMD I knew I wouldn't be judged or made fun of and I had others to match my interests and personality. There truly is a place for everyone in CTSMD.
CTSMD has left an indelible mark on my son that I know he will remember for the rest of his life, without exaggeration. The authenticity and setting of high standards has spread to other areas of life that may once have been a struggle--yes, he has enjoyed theater and I believe it is a passion he will pursue for many years to come, but most notably, he has learned the inestimable value of commitment as well as personal growth and development in these formative years of life through his involvement in CTSMD.
The incredible staff and board members truly see the potential in each child and know how to bring it out with both love and expertise. The entire CTSMD team all share the same incredible commitment to making sure every child feels supported and empowered. You’re not just teaching theater; you’re teaching life lessons, building confidence, and showing these kids how far they can go when they put their heart into something. It’s clear that the kids aren’t just part of CTSMD—they’re the very reason CTSMD exists.
Getting involved CTSMD has been one of the best choices I’ve made. I’ve found so many new friends and been exposed to new musicals and roles that I completely love now. I’ve been able to exercise my passions and I’ve joined a community that I cherish dearly! I love CTSMD and everyone who helps make it as great as it is!
What truly sets CTSMD apart is that it’s not just about the incredibly high-level productions, though those are nothing short of amazing. It’s about the people—your staff and board members—who are wholeheartedly dedicated to the kids. You’re not just producing plays; you’re creating a space where each child is seen, valued, and encouraged to flourish. Every interaction, every class, and every rehearsal feels purposeful because it’s clear that the kids are at the heart of everything you do. That’s something so rare and special.
CTSMD has shown me that being committed means giving your all, and that it's okay to make a mistake because it shows that you're not afraid to just go for it. This company's community is hard-working, creative, and makes an effort to support one another. We would not have a show if we did not have our director, producer, music and dance coaches, and our supporters.
What stands out to us most is how much our daughter's confidence has grown. She started off hesitant to speak up, reluctant to be in the spotlight. Now, she's willing to step out of her shell, put herself out there, and embrace her creative force of nature. In less than two months, we've seen her confidence swell, and her grit has grown right alongside it. CTSMD has given her something she truly wants to work hard for. She's willing to push through personal barriers she once thought insurmountable - a transformation we attribute directly to the supportive, encouraging environment you've cultivated.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a program like this here in Southern Maryland.  CTSMD is not only providing a fun and engaging space for children to explore the performing arts, it's also fostering the next generation of dynamic, creative thinkers--young people who don't just appreciate the arts but are empowered to participate and grow through them.  In a world that frequently overlooks the value of the arts as anything more than entertainment, it's a gift to know that our daughter is developing skills that will serve her well beyond the stage: self-expression, collaboration, resilience, and courage.
What we heard about CTSMD is 100% true.  You give students the freedom to step outside of their comfort zones, explore their creativity, and have fun--without coercion, comparison, or shame. You've created a space where children are encouraged to grow at their own pace, and we're incredibly grateful to have found this program.
The Children's Theatre of Southern Maryland believes that theatre is for everyone, regardless of race, gender, ability, religion, or background. There is power in inclusion, and all of the students in our spaces deserve the chance to access theatre and to see themselves represented both onstage and backstage. CTSMD will not tolerate discrimination of any kind or situations that make our students, staff, and volunteers feel unsafe.
