About:

Our award-winning summer intensive provides students the opportunity to develop a production in just 2 weeks! From auditioning, to costuming, to building sets, and of course learning the entire show, our performers and tech crew work hard and play hard as they bring the production to life!

Students will
  • Develop their theatrical craft.
  • Learn from talented and experienced teaching artists.
  • Step out of their comfort zones.
  • Grow friendships, new and old.
  • Build lifelong skills.
  • Have fun!

Student expectations:
  • Prepare for the audition in advance with provided materials. Everyone registered will be in the production; auditions are held on the first day to select roles.
  • Commit to learning lines, music, and choreography. In addition to program hours during the day, practice time on your own is required.
  • Utilize down-time during the day to review and practice with fellow students.
  • Embrace the rapid learning process.

Parent/Guardian expectations:
  • Provide audition information to students (sent in advance) and support preparation.
  • Support practice during the 2 weeks.
  • Purchase makeup needed for the show. Makeup may not be shared among students.
  • Purchase shoes as required for costuming and dancing.
  • Obtain required costume pieces. You may choose to purchase costumes and then either keep them or donate them, or CTSMD will purchase items and retain them.
  • Volunteer on show days.
The Children's Theatre of Southern Maryland believes that theatre is for everyone, regardless of race, gender, ability, religion, or background. There is power in inclusion, and all of the students in our spaces deserve the chance to access theatre and to see themselves represented both onstage and backstage. CTSMD will not tolerate discrimination of any kind or situations that make our students, staff, and volunteers feel unsafe.
